My corner - I'll be taking care of the panels on this gate, which is bound to be hit a few times by the racers when they come by with about 100 km/h

Raceday

Ok, the downhill is on. Everything is in place. I'll be taken care of the gate at the second split time point. I'm on the inside of the turn in dark blue pants, light blue jacket, red arm band, grey helmet, brown googles, gate key on the right side.

Pictures will follow.

First day as a volunteer

Yes that has been the title before, but this time I actually got up on the mountain and got some work done.

I got up at 3.30am, went down to the check-in at 4am to be ready to work. Then it was all postpone until 5.45am. We then went up to fix the course. No race today since the snow was too soft, it is postpone until Monday for now.

Here is one of the classic photos of me with my fellow crew in the background working hard on the alternative start to the Giant Slalom race.
We are not suppose to be in tomorrow before noon, so, I am looking forward to a good night sleep.

Best,
Marc

At the Whistler Weasel House

So, I am currently at the Whistler Weasel House better known as the beer tent for the volunteers. A nice place but hard to meet new people because everyone knows each other. It is kind of like when you in university got in to the medicin student bar and knows no one.

The opening ceremony is about to start so I better find a good spot in front of the TV.

Best Marc

Credit to Nils the eagle....

I am expecting you all to have seen the videos that I have posted, and in the one I have made there is a photo of a man flying high above the jump with the sun in the background. That man is the soon to become famous Nils. What he will be famous for is still uncertain, but the future will bring the answer....

Video blog: schedule change again - working at 4AM now!!

My new trend and the finish area

Here is a picture of the finish area. On the right it is the ladies' course and the mens' are on the left. I am on the mens course.

We have received these arm-bands that we are to wear, but they are in the way on the arm so a lot of people are having them on their legs. I, however, want to start a new trend, which is to wear it on top of my toque. With this new way you will also be able to see what is says on it.

Only the future will tell whether it will catch on...

Video blog from first day as an volunteer.

First day as a volunteer

So I had my training today as a volunteer and will be on the mountain for the first time tomorrow.

I met Bill Scott yesterday and some of the other members of our crew. The seem really nice and I am looking forward to working with them.

I was up skiing for an hour and I got passed by Bode Miller on a flat green slope. He looked like enjoying cruising down and had a big smile on his face.

I am heading down to the volunteer tent to meet the others. I might have to be at work tomorrow at 5.30 AM so I will be home early to go to bed.

I will try to get some more photos up soon.

Best Marc

Here is another ski video we have made...

Most amazing holiday ski video!

Casper have made this amazing video from the 2 weeks him and the boys where here. It might be the most amazing holiday video ever. It includes our snowcat skiing time - take a look at it with following this link:

Getting settled in at my new home for the Olympics

So here it is - my new home. Yes this is where I am staying during the Olympics. Had to find housing on my own and the only place I could get a bed was at the UBC Hostel.

I will be honest and say that I really don't like staying here, so I hope that I will meet some nice people and be pre-occupoied with doing other stuff then hang around here. And again - I will of course do anything to be in the Olympics, so this is fine.

Larry the Olympic Scarf...

After having watched the Olympic torch relay I went to Gastown to meet up with Terri and some of her friends. It turned out only to be Vanessa who could join us.

So, here is Terri's newest scarf, which is inspired by the Olympic Games that are in town.
The girls are trying to figure out the scarf so that we can take a photo.
here it is, looks great I think.
At midnight it was Vanessa's birthday so we had a small cake to celebrate her.
The girls look happy even tough they just lost a bet on whether it is Transferrin or Albumin that is the main carrier of blood in the veins..

Recap (Feb 11 2009): Olympic village and Torch relay

I went downtown Vancouver today to check out the Olympic village - I could not get in, but will get a guess pass next time I am in town.

I took a walk around and enjoyed Vancouver when it is best, which is when the sun is out.

Later I went down to Richmond with Joanna, Mike, and John to see the torch relay.

Classic photo - I guess I will have another 1000 of those after the Olympics...

Here is a proof to the point that Vancouver is absolutely beautiful.
Please notice the Danish flag....
To the O'Zone to see the torch...
between 20,000 and 30,000 people!!

Recap (Feb 7 2009): Mt. Washington

I have been staying in Victoria for the past week. I have stayed at Anne and Huge's place. It is nice to be back and visit them again while being healthy. I also visited them back in January after I got food poison.

A big thanks to the whole family again for letting me stay at their wonderful home. Almost like visiting a small part of Denmark.

Anne, Hugh, Keen, Alexander and I went up to Mt. Washington last weekend. Here are a few photos from it.

The sun was only to find at the top of the mountain.
classic photo....

Recap (Jan 22 2009): Snowcat skiing

We have talked about for months and now the time had come for our two day cat skiing event.

Fist we drove to Pemberton, and then further with the guide until the road ended. We then packed everything on Snowmobiles and drove another 45 minutes before we got to the lodge.

The lodge was out in the middle of nowhere. We arrived on a clear night and could see hundreds of stars clearly while the moon was lightning up the mountain sides.

We went to bed early to be ready for catskiing the next day:

There are not a lot of photos nor video, since we had such a great time that there was no time for stopping. However, here are a few photos and soon there will be a video as well.

The snowcat has just drop us off...
I'm ready!
